The UK’s charities need your help!

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.  The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26th April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation, like so many charities across the UK, has been hugely impacted by the cancellation of fundraising events due to COVID-19.  At a time when fundraising is at an all-time low and in response to the crisis, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities.

The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26th April 2020 – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.  The challenge will last for one week – until the 3rd May. The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone, of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remain local.

Example activities (all must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing)

  • Run or walk 2.6 miles (or km) – or for 26 minutes
  • Exercise at home for 26 minutes (or 2.6 minutes)
  • Do 26 press ups
  • Do 26 keepie uppies
  • Do a plank for 26 seconds
  • 26 or 260 penalty shoot outs / or netball hoops
  • Walk up and down the stairs 26 times
  • Hop around the garden 26 times
  • Have an ice bath for 26 seconds
  • Skip for 260 seconds
  • Dance for 26 minutes
